Clara Kim: Communication and Marketing

Hello everyone! Nice to meet you. My name is Clara Kim, and I am also called Geunhae Kim in South Korea where I am originally from. My undergraduate degree was in Communication with a minor in Marketing at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Currently, I am pursuing my master’s degree in Communication at RIT, and this is my last semester.

While I studied Communication as an undergraduate, I became interested in Marketing. The fascinating thing about marketing is I can put my ideas and creativity into brands, products, and events. I like to share new, creative, ingenious, and different ideas and thoughts with people. I am also interested in cosmetics, so I would love to combine my two interests: marketing and cosmetics by working in a cosmetics company in the future.

I am planning on working in the marketing industry after graduation. I have experienced diverse cultures in both Asian and Western cultures, so I am inspired and motivated by the experiences to be creative. I am passionate to pursue creative and meaningful works. You can reach me by email at gk6183@rit.edu. You can also visit my portfolio website. Please download my resume to learn more about me.

Daniel Lemaster – Ad Photography and Business Administration

Hello! My name is Daniel Lemaster. Being raised in Lancaster, PA I grew up around many small businesses including my own family’s, which got me into the idea of owning and operating my own business early in life. Along with this, being from such a small-town area there wasn’t a lot for me to do, and when I was around 14, I started to get into photography as a hobby to pass time and quickly grew in love with it. It is these conditions that set me down the path that I am on today.

In 2021 I received my BFA in Photographic and Imaging Arts with a specialization in Advertising Photography, along with a minor in advertising and public relations, and business administration. Currently, I am pursuing my MBA with a planned graduation of 2022.

My plan is to work towards becoming a Serial Entrepreneur. Having a love and passion for both business and the arts positions me well to balance creativity and structure to come up with new business ideas and to operate them well.

Jake Hamacher : MBA Student-Athlete

Hey everyone! My name is Jake Hamacher and I am an MBA Student at Rochester Institute of Technology. I graduated last year from RIT with a major in Finance and a minor in Public Relations and Advertising. I also play on the Division I hockey team here at RIT, and this is my 5thyear on the team. Due to Covid-19, athletes were given an extra year of eligibility, so I figured I might as well put that extra year to good use and get an MBA!

Background

I am originally from Southern California, where I lived until I was 16. In order to follow my dream of playing Division I hockey, I played all over America until committing to RIT. I’ve lived in Washington state, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin before finally arriving in beautiful Rochester, NY. I always knew I wanted to get a degree in something business-related, and Finance intrigued and interested me the most.

Experience and the Future

During the summer of 2019, I was able to co-op at Northwestern Mutual as a financial representative, which taught me a lot, but also left me hungry to learn more. After my playing days are over, I want to somehow work with athletes and help them navigate their finances, hopefully as a financial representative who specializes in working with athletes. I don’t know if anyone reading this has seen the HBO show Ballers, but that seems like a pretty good life!

Maddy Schoenfeld, MBA

Maddy Schoenfeld photographed by Antonia Garcia, Curious & Sweet Photography

Hi there! My name is Madison Schoenfeld, but my friends call me Maddy.  I’m a second year MBA student with a concentration in digital marketing, originally from New Jersey, I now call Rochester home.  I graduated from RIT with my BFA in metals and jewelry design and a minor in museum studies in the spring of 2020 before deciding to pursue my MBA.  I finished my BFA and graduated as an outstanding undergraduate scholar, and I am extremely passionate about community and collaboration.

When not taking classes, you can find me working at my dream job right in the heart of RIT’s Global Village, as Manager at Shop One.  Shop One is a beautiful gallery shop that sells art, craft, and design made by RIT faculty, alumni, and students.  Alongside Wendy Marks, I curate, maintain, and grow the shops’ presence on campus and online.  My goal at Shop One is to make art and design accessible to everyone and provide a platform for young artists to gain experience in sharing their work with the world.

And when you can’t find me at Shop One, you can probably find me working downtown in my private studio, where I make work for my own jewelry business.  Madison Sophia Jewelry specializes in sterling silver jewelry and colorful, hand dyed, 3D printed nylon jewelry.  I strive to stretch the limits of 3D Printing applications by using them in a totally unique way, utilizing both color and form to build geometric shapes into organic compositions.  I am also a metalsmith and incorporate many traditional techniques into my designs.  In my line you can find everything from lightweight earrings, to rings that make a bold statement. Take a peak at my website!

And when you can’t find me at Shop One or my studio, you can find me at home among my plants and reptiles.  I have a crested gecko named Arthur, a gargoyle gecko named Aurora, and a Malayan horned frog named Henry; I love them all dearly.  I also have a large collection of plants- friends who visit my home often say that it reminds them of a jungle.

Maggie Sperry, MBA

Hi, my name is Maggie Sperry. I am a 1st year MBA student with a concentration in Digital Marketing. I received my undergraduate degree at RIT in New Media Marketing with a minor in Advertising and Public Relations. I am really passionate about marketing and love learning new things. I plan on graduating in May 2022 and I am currently looking for a full-time position.

I am a Student Manager at Ctrl Alt DELi, a dining location on campus. I supervise and work with 30 employees throughout the day, as well as work with my managers to make sure The Deli runs smoothly. I train new employees and run The Deli when my managers are not there. I also open every day of the week and assist in organizational tasks. I have been working there for 5 years now, and am one of the longest-lasting employees there.

In my free time, I make my jewelry, specifically earrings. I make them mostly for myself but in the future, I might expand to an Etsy shop. I have a background in visual arts, having attended art school for seven years. My focus is on painting, but recently I have started printmaking and have printed a few shirts with my designs. I have a Redbubble shop where I sell clothing, stickers, and prints with my art on them. I hosted a true-crime podcast for about 2 years and grossed about $200 in profits. I had to go on a hiatus during grad school, and plan on picking it back up when things are less busy.

Kamal Goulbourne: Marketing Consultant

About Me:

My name is Kamal Goulbourne and I am a Marketing Consultant. I am currently a senior at Rochester Institute of Technology, pursing a MBA with a concentration in Digital Marketing. While focusing on my studies I also do marketing projects for a company called VeeMed.

Fun Fact: I am a dual citizen United States & Jamaica

From: Brooklyn, NY

Experience

Throughout my college years I have worked at multiple companies including Picasso Labs, Hospital for Special Surgeries, and now VeeMed. I have also worked for multiple offices at RIT to help with marketing efforts. I am a big advocate of practicing what you preach. I haven’t given marketing advice that I personally wouldn’t use on my own projects. It is easy giving advice and telling others how to spend their money. It is much harder when it is your money on the line.

That being said, I have put my marketing skillset to use to generate revenue for my own side projects. Knowledge of branding, website design, social media marketing, influencer marketing, ad copy, and Facebook & Google Ads were needed to transform ideas I’ve had to functional business projects, that generated weekly revenue. Asides from marketing, I have also enjoyed photography for quite some time. I specialize in portraits, events, and have taken an interest in commercial photography as well . You can find my work here: My Portfolio.

Mission

After I graduate I will work fulltime for a company that wants to seriously invest in their marketing strategy and have a direct impact on its success. One day I will have my own business, where I help entrepreneurs and top executives alike with their marketing plans.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Daniel Ruano, MBA

Hello Everyone! My name is Daniel Ruano and I am a second year MBA student with a concentration in Leadership and Management. I was born and raised in Long Island, New York but for the past couple of years I have come to know Rochester as my home away from home. I completed my undergraduate degree in Network & Systems Administration at RIT in spring of 2020 & then decided that I wanted to continue my education by pursuing an MBA. A goal of mine is to use my background in technology & business to start up my own technology consulting business.

Aside from technology and business, I have a strong passion for volunteer & philanthropic work. I created my own volunteer group, Rising Esperanza, which focuses on raising funds and awareness for charitable organizations. Through Rising Esperanza I have had the opportunity to host my own events & initiatives focused on various charitable causes that need more visibility. One of my favorite events through this group would have to be our “Come Out for a Cookout: An LGBTQ Benefit”. We hosted a cookout in my hometown’s community center where community members could come show their support and get to know our members. All the proceeds from this event went to support Pride for Youth in Long Island, New York as they provided free HIV test kits those in need.

While I’m in Rochester I am heavily involved with my fraternity. In the fall 2017 semester, I crossed into the Omega Chapter of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity Incorporated. We are a Latin-Based but not Latin-Exclusive organization that focuses primarily on Leadership through Academics, Culture, Brotherhood & Service. Throughout my experience in this organization I have had the opportunity to give back to the Rochester community by connecting with a multitude of student at programs, discussions & service events hosted by my organization and other Culturally Based Fraternities and Sororities.
